Local Author Begins Writing History of Seattle Lighthouse
I invite anyone who has a remembrance or incident relating to the history of the Lighthouse to please let us know, says local historian Junius Rochester. For the next three months or so I will be collecting all the information I can.
Rochester, the author of five books and numerous articles, estimates that writing the history of our eighty-five-year-old organization will take about six months. A long-time resident of the nearby Madrona neighborhood, Rochester is uniquely qualified to record the development of the Lighthouse and its place in Seattle history. His books include Roots and Branches: The Religious Heritage of Washington State; Lakelure: A Tale of Medina, Washington; and The Seattle Chapter of ARCS: Achievement Rewards for College Scientists.
Rochester has contributed scholarly articles to numerous publications including The Seattle Weekly, Puget Soundings, Catholic Northwest Progress and Ferries of America. You can read dozens of his pieces on local history at www.historylink.org.
If you have archival materials relating to the Seattle Lighthouse or would like to share memories with Mr. Rochester, you can contact him through Jeff Patterson in the Lighthouse Public Relations and Resource Development Department at 206-436-2223 or jpatterson@seattlelh.org.
