National White Cane Day 2008
On October 15, 2008, members of the blind, Deaf-Blind, and greater Seattle communities gathered in Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Park to celebrate National White Cane Safety Day. Mayor Greg Nickels acted as keynote speaker and joined the special white cane walk around the park arm in arm with Lighthouse Production Worker Debbie Sommer.
Machinist John Simms led the walk proclaiming “Cane Power!” Mayor Nickels also issued a special proclamation in honor of White Cane Day 2008 and presented it to Government Affairs Specialist Mark Landreneau, who acted as master of ceremonies.
